I have always loved flowers. Where I grew up on the Texas coast, there were only these little sand dune flowers, jewels that grew from nothing at all, like magic fairy tale flowers. My life as a commercial fisherman’s daughter was spartan and workaday—I learned to make fishnets and crab traps out of twine and wire, but what I really loved was jewelry and embellishment ... and flowers.

In college and learned art and jewelry design and set out to create my own jewelry line. I wanted to do something different; I loved vintage jewelry, so there I found my inspiration. Upon close examination of many handmade pieces like those of Miriam Haskell, I found something that really intrigued me: much of the netted and woven wirework in the structure of these pieces reminded me of my long-ago toils on nets and wire traps for my father.

So my first jewelry line became The Russian Princess Collection, with wire-woven beadwork out of which jeweled bead flowers grew. My line was successful for many years, sold in fine galleries nationwide. But I grew restless and wanted flowers in my jewelry to inspire me like those original fairy tale sand dune flowers did. I knew I had to make them myself. I bought lampworking equipment and set out to teach myself to do it. There were many failures, and more than a few burns, and years of effort, but gradually the flowers of my dreams began to emerge from the flame, like magic!

And then I met George, and guess what—he is also a lampworker! Needless to say, we got married and make beautiful glass together. He makes a lot of the florals on this page and other wonderful stuff.

The flowers are made on 22-gauge brass wire, cleaned and annealed for strength and beauty. The jewelry is made using my own wire-weaving techniques, with a reverent nod to vintage jewelry of bygone eras.
